The most common comment we’ve heard about “Edge of Tomorrow” is ‘what a surprise’, or ‘better than I thought it was going to be’. Ian and Tim thought it was a fresh take on the time travel loop idea, and it was fun to watch Tom Cruise make the transition from douchbag coward to bad ass hero. We noticed that the movie was very respectful of the Manga story ‘All You Need Is Kill’. Rem was particularly pleased to see Brendan Gleeson and Bill Paxton in the film.
Jonathan, Tim and Ian found the beginning to be somewhat slow, and thought about 15 minutes could have been edited out to speed things up. While Ian enjoyed it, he didn’t feel compelled to see it again or drag someone to see it. It was a decent loop story but he believes other stories have done it better. We all agreed the title (Edge of Tomorrow) was a weak throw-away title that really didn’t sell the storyline. Interesting to see that the DVD covers more prominently display the words ‘Live. Die. Repeat.’ even bigger than the film title.
If you’ve not see ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ expecting it to be a pointless Tom Cruise money vehicle, you’ll be pleasantly surprised how fun this movie is! Like Director Doug Liman said, it’s Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers. This is a fun, interesting movie with a great balance of story, action and humor that’ll keep you engaged to the ending credits.
Here’s a link to that other Manga Ian was talking about:
Seth Heasley’s link to article on why the ending might just be great:
