Sci-Fi Movie Podcast - EquilibriumThis time on The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast, we’re happy to welcome back Tim Allen to discuss “Equilibrium“, a dark, and Matrix-eque dystopian Sci-Fi thriller from 2002, and directed by Kurt Wimmer.

The Positive
We found ‘Equilibrium’ to be an interesting and smart futuristic story with a somewhat plausible premise. Inevitably, we found ourselves comparing it to ‘The Matrix‘, one of our favorite Sci-Fi movies. It looks as though ‘Equilibrium’ borrow from several other Sci-Fi Classics such as Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World to build its world and story. The look and feel of the story was solid and realistic.

The Negative
Though the film borrows from a rich history of Sci-Fi material, we noticed that ‘Equilibrium‘ seemed to lack a strong storyline of its own. It seemed to reference other movies, but did not really carve its own direction.  Jonathan loved the Gun Kata routine, but Rem found it pretty silly. Tim found it odd that we see emotional outbursts in characters, which seemed counter to the direction of the story.

The Verdict
Equilibrium‘ borrows from other stories, but doesn’t really seem to tell it’s own story. You’ll likely enjoy Christian Bale, Taye Diggs and a brief appearance by Sean Bean.
