Sci-Fi Movie Podcast - The FlyThis time on The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast, we’re digging deeper into “The Fly” the Sci-Fi Horror film from 1986, directed by David Cronenberg.

The Positive
The Fly is a updated version of the 1958 original and work on many levels.  Both Rem and Jonathan enjoyed Jeff Goldblum, seems like a role that is perfect for him.  Aside from a few computer graphics, this film is done with practice effects and some puppetry for the Fly in the end sequence.  For the most part, it still looks good, and Rem found the story engaging and packed some good emotional punch.

The Negative
Ian found the movie to be more of a horror film with a small Sci-Fi (Teleportation) hook, and he would like to have seen more emphasis on the technology and potential of the technology.  Jonathan (like Vincent Price) thought they went a bit too far with the gooey and oozing special effects, though Rem was ok with it.

The Verdict
Though none of us consider this is necessary Sci-Fi viewing, we do suggest watching it…at least once.  And you can Skip ‘The Fly 2″ save your time for something else.
