Very surprisingly, Ian and Jonathan had never seen Silent Running, Rem saw it as youngster years ago. Both Ian and Jonathan appreciated the story idea and visual effects. Rem enjoyed it more, having more of a history with the film, and really liked the robots, Huey, Louie and Dewey. We also
Ian didn’t believe in the decision making of the main character, Freeman Lowell, and wasn’t able to identify with what the character was doing, there seemed to be a lack of logic in his actions. Jonathan also found Lowell’s character to be a bit too crazy at times, and thought the crew was killed off a bit to fast, making the rest of the film somewhat anti-climactic.
Only Rem considered this essential Sci-Fi viewing, Ian and Jonathan don’t plan to revisit this one again any time soon. Will your Sci-Fi education be complete without Silent Running? Probably not, but we’d suggest this over any Michael Bay movie.
