This time on The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast, we’re digging deeper into “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back“, the sequel to 1977’s Star Wars. If you missed that Podcast, go back and listen to our 2 hour (plus) discussion on Star Wars, and then come back to hear our discussion of “Empire”.
“Empire” is perhaps one of the best sequels ever made, and certainly the best sequel of the series. It confidently follows “Star Wars” with greater character development, and an increased sense of tension and danger and acts as the linch pin between Episodes IV and Episode VI.
We Ian on the hot seat to answer all our criticisms and he handily answered nearly all of them. Jonathan and Rem found the AT-AT design very clunky, Jonathan thought the segment where Luke meets Darth Vader on Dagobah to be somewhat disjointed and interrupted the pace of the movie. Rem found the sound very ‘busy’, at times with too many sound effects, but maybe Rem’s just getting old.
Considered by many to be the best movie of the entire series, Empire takes the Star Wars characters and the universe to interesting and darker places, and sets the stage for Episode VI. We consider this and Episodes IV and VI to be crucial Sci-Fi watching. Episodes 1-3? We’ll see…
