This week on The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast, Rem, Jonathan and Ian review “X-Men” from 2000 and directed by Bryan Singer. Generally considered to be a great adaption of the X-Men Comics, this film is jump-off point for all the Marvel movies that would come.
X-Men comes from the Marvel Comic Book Universe, but is very enjoyable to those (like Rem) who have not read the Comics. The story introduces our main characters quickly, and takes the time to build the relationships between the characters, which makes for an entertaining and engaging story. An added layer of depth comes from the exploration of the positive and negative sides of Mutation, and the the prejudices we have toward those who we consider different from ourselves.
We would have liked to see a few other characters (like Beast) introduced, and more screen time between Magneto and Xavier. Very little negative to be said.
X-Men was the first film to start the series of Marvel movies that we now enjoy. Whether you read the comics or not, X-Men is a fun and entertaining movie that everyone can enjoy.
